Why Group Therapy Often Works Better

Research shows group therapy can be as effective, and sometimes more effective, than individual therapy for anxiety, depression, and emotional regulation challenges. Here's why:

  • You're not alone. When others share similar struggles, shame and isolation melt away.
  • Multiple perspectives. You learn not just from your therapist, but from peers who've navigated similar challenges.
  • Real-world practice. Groups provide a safe space to practice communication and emotional skills with real people.
  • Built-in accountability. Regular sessions create structure that keeps you committed to your healing.

Is Traditional Therapy Not Working for You?

Maybe you've tried one-on-one sessions but felt stuck. Maybe $150 to $200 per hour makes consistent therapy impossible. Maybe you're looking for something more structured, a clear path forward rather than open-ended conversations.

You're not alone. Ummah Support Services (USS) was built for exactly this. Taskeen Baig, MSW RSW, founded USS to make evidence-based group psychotherapy accessible to people who've been priced out of the traditional system, including BIPOC, Muslim, newcomer, and postpartum communities across Ontario.

Taskeen's Active Psychotherapy Approach

Quality therapy shouldn't be a luxury.

After more than ten years of clinical work—including with high-risk populations—Taskeen has mastered something she calls Active Psychotherapy: a purposeful, step-by-step framework that keeps you moving forward while honouring your unique story. Unlike open-ended therapy that can feel directionless, our groups have clear structure, measurable goals, and a roadmap for progress.

The Affordability Math:

Traditional therapy: $150-200 for one hour
USS: $150/month for 6+ hours of group support

USS's Ontario Groups Currently Include:

  • CBT Skills Group and DBT Skills Group (anxiety, depression, emotional regulation)
  • Aware Partner and Aware Partner Neurodivergent (relationships and attachment)
  • Aware Parent and Aware Parent Neurodivergent (parenting)
  • Postpartum Support Groups for Moms and Dads

You can join from anywhere you feel comfortable, but we would strongly suggest that you join sessions from a quite confidential space (like a bedroom, a study, etc.).
