Therapy in BC Feels Out of Reach for Most People
The cost of individual therapy in British Columbia has never been higher. At $150 to $200 per session, seeing a therapist weekly is simply not realistic for most people, and many end up going without the support they need, or stopping altogether when life gets busy or budgets tighten.
And even when people do find a therapist, the one-on-one model has its limits. It can feel isolating. Progress is slow. And there is something missing, the sense that other people truly understand what you are going through.
If you have been searching for a way to access real, evidence-based psychotherapy without breaking the bank, and without feeling like you are on a waiting list forever, you are not alone. Residents across British Columbia are in the same position, and Ummah Support Services (USS) was built with you in mind.
What Is Virtual Group Psychotherapy?
Group psychotherapy is not a support group or a drop-in session. It is structured, evidence-based therapy, led by a registered clinician, designed to help you build real skills and make lasting change alongside others who understand what you are going through.
At USS, Taskeen Baig, MSW RSW, leads small, focused groups using proven frameworks like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Each group has a clear direction, a therapeutic road map, and a safe facilitator who makes sure every voice is heard. You get the depth of one-on-one therapy, and the added strength of community, for a fraction of the cost.
USS currently offers the following groups for British Columbia residents:
- CBT Skills Group and DBT Skills Group (anxiety, depression, emotional regulation)
- Aware Partner and Aware Partner Neurodivergent (relationships and attachment)
- Aware Parent and Aware Parent Neurodivergent (parenting)
- Postpartum Support Groups for moms and dads
How Ummah Support Services Helps BC Residents
Taskeen Baig founded USS after more than ten years of clinical work, during which she noticed the same pattern: people thrived when therapy had a clear direction. That insight became her Active Psychotherapy framework, a purposeful, step-by-step approach that keeps you moving forward while honouring your unique story.
For British Columbians, USS offers:
- Affordability: $150 per month for 6 or more hours of group therapy, compared to $150 for a single individual session
- Cultural safety: Taskeen is San'yas trained (Indigenous Cultural Safety and Anti-Racism) and brings specialized expertise in BIPOC, Muslim, newcomer, and postpartum communities
- Proven modalities: CBT, DBT, and attachment-based approaches, delivered virtually to any BC city or rural area

Frequently Asked Questions About Online Group Therapy in BC
Yes. Research consistently shows that virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy for most mental health concerns. For British Columbians in rural areas, smaller cities like Kelowna or Prince George, or simply anyone with a busy schedule, virtual group therapy removes the biggest barrier: access.
Group psychotherapy with a Registered Social Worker is not typically covered under BC's Medical Services Plan (MSP). However, many extended health plans through employers do cover registered social worker services. We recommend checking your plan's coverage for RSW-provided psychotherapy. USS does not direct-bill insurance, but can provide receipts for reimbursement.
Your monthly membership gives you access to as many group sessions as you are enrolled in that month, typically 6 or more hours of structured group therapy. You can enroll in multiple groups to address different areas of your life.
Groups are intentionally kept small to maintain a safe, focused environment. Taskeen carefully facilitates each session to make sure every participant has space to contribute and no one dominates the conversation.
Yes. USS is a fully virtual practice. Whether you are in Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, Prince George, or a smaller community, all you need is a device and a private space to connect.
